A Message from Phil...
It is an honor and privilege to serve as a voice for Michigan’s working families
and seniors. I believe that we must do everything we can to enact good public policy
that will support our hard-working men and women. As a State Representative I have
been focused on cutting wasteful government spending so we can focus on creating
jobs, protecting middle-class families and providing our children with a world-class
education to compete in a global market.
I understand that times are extremely challenging and everyone is doing more for
less; but workers must earn a decent wage to support their families and our economy.
To help Michigan’s low-wage workers I introduced legislation that would restore
the Michigan Earned Income Tax Credit to its former higher amount which was 20 percent
of the federal EITC. The EITC not only helps struggling families, it also helps
local economies. I have been an advocate for families and seniors across the state
against the rate increased imposed by the Michigan Catastrophic Claims Association
(MCCA). The MCCA is funded by the public’s money yet rates are set behind closed
doors; rates that we are forced to pay. I have led the fight to bring transparency
and accountability throughout the MCCA as I believe that drivers deserve to know
where their hard earned money is going and whether the imposed fees are justifiable
or unnecessary. More
